Happy new year! …or, to be more specific happy new BCS financial year!
I’m quite excited; despite the remaining uncertainties, we do have lots to be positive about.
So here are some of my new year resolutions and predictions:
Mighty oaks from small acorns grow: 2020/21 had very much been about setting the foundations for the future of our community and the future of BCS membership. 2021/22 will see some early payoffs, especially in the widening of participation in the community across BCS membership through a new online ‘discourse’ community – more on that soon.
Implementing what we have learned: The last year has involved an enormous amount of learning, through working groups exploring opportunities to make improvements; to bringing our activity online. The year ahead will see us start to consult, implement and iterate on new ways of working in the community.
Alignment and working as one team: We have a new three-year strategy and objectives; it will be up to all of us to work together to be successful, and we will start that off with a new Kick-Off event for our Member Groups in September. Through transparency, accountability and trust, we can continue good progress made for staff, committee members and governance to work as one team.

Community Kick-Off 2021/22
All committee members invited
Starting off the new year, we invite all member group committee members to join us for an online 2021/22 kick-off event to learn about the BCS, Chartered Institute for IT strategy and objectives for the year ahead.
The kick-off event will start a new approach to delivering a programme year for member group committee members with key milestone activities and conventions to be published.
As part of the kick-off event, you will have the opportunity to hear about the overarching BCS strategy and zoom in on the objectives of the Institute. The event will also incorporate sessions that committee members can attend to learn more about what our working groups have been up to since we last met.
BCS recognises its volunteers for their hard work, dedication and achievement through its volunteer awards.
BCS depends on the good services of its volunteer force of members for many of its activities, enabling it to meet its charter and its charitable objects. These volunteers are IT professionals, many of them chartered, who care enough about the profession and BCS’s role to give their own time to furthering BCS’s aims and fostering relationships with other organisations. Volunteers play many roles within BCS, from its president, trustees, board and committee members, through assessors and accreditors, to the huge ‘front line’ of member group committees who organise events for our members.
The PPP Committee want to give more of these awards, so please consider individuals who go above and beyond the volunteer call of duty. The process and nomination form is on the Volunteer Portal.
Come along and enjoy an IT packed programme around the theme of ‘Doing IT Better’, with plenty of time for networking and socialising in delightful surroundings.
Substantially reduced conference fees for BCS members.
