The autumn heralds the start of the Community’s year with many groups planning their annual calendar of events and preparing for their AGMs.
This year also sees the adoption of a new three-year strategy for the whole Institute, which will be communicated to member groups over the next couple of months. The most important theme for the Institute over the next three years will be membership with all groups playing a vital role.
This is an exciting period for everybody in the BCS Community as we align behind this new strategy, which has drawn on inputs from members across the Institute. Everybody has a role to play in ensuring we act as One Team, One Community, One BCS.
I anticipate changes occurring at all levels across the Community as we work hard to implement this strategy together.
We are planning for two conventions this year along with two innovations to the calendar to support alignment. We have a Kick-Off event to set the scene for the upcoming year very shortly and we will close the year in Summer 2022 with something to celebrate what we have achieved and reflect on how our groups have changed.
Best wishes,
Alastair Revell Vice-President, Community
Member Groups Review WG
I am pleased to report that the Member Group Working Group (MGWG) has met its original timing plan and has concluded the analysis phase of reviewing the many issues discussed at earlier conventions as well as undertaking a wider review of what Member Groups consider as necessary to make a better BCS.
The MGWG is making thirty-six change suggestions and is now seeking consultation with the wider BCS membership community.
These suggestions are available for review and comment within the BCS Volunteer Portal here: https://volunteer.bcs.org/MGWG_Recommendations-Introduction There is also an imminent online event as part of next week’s ‘Community Kick Off’, to explain the background and discuss the specific suggestions.
This online event is arranged to take place on Tuesday 28th September at 18:00 via Zoom, so still time to register.
Sign up for the MGWG suggestions event is via Eventbrite here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/member-group-working-group-community-kick-off-fringe-event-tickets-170989262487 Over the next four weeks (consultation closes on Friday 29th October 2021), you now have the chance to review and comment, agree or disagree. The hope is that these suggestions will create debate amongst members which can lead to a consensus for real improvement to how BCS Member Groups can operate, removing impediments and supporting transparent collaboration across the BCS.
Please Note: The Community Board has to give final approval for any of these suggestions.
Regards, Charlie Houston-Brown Chair, Member Group Working Group (MGWG)
