We are getting closer to our autumn conferences, so if you are working on innovative solutions to improve patient care, please consider submitting an abstract for either the Faculty conference or the Nursing Informatics conference.  The Primary Healthcare Specialist Group conference is also awarding prizes, so do consider applying for one of them.


September will also mean the launch of a new cohort of the International Certification for Healthcare CIOs starting in September – booking for places now open! Places are limited and on a first-come basis.

Call for Abstracts + Conference Announcement – Faculty of Health and Care Conference 2025

 

Join us in shaping the future of health and care informatics. We are seeking original research, case studies, and innovative solutions in digital health and care to share at our Faculty conference. Applications are by abstract only, and submitted abstracts will be considered for podium and poster presentations. We are also delighted to announce that BMJ Health & Care Informatics has agreed to support the publication of the selected abstracts. The closing date is 1 August 2025. You can submit an abstract using this form.

Call for Abstracts – BCS Nursing and RCN Digital Nursing Conference

 

Join us in shaping the future of digital nursing. We are seeking original research, case studies and innovative solutions in digital nursing to share at our conference. There are three categories: education, research and applied practice. Application is by abstract only and submitted abstracts will be considered for presentation at the conference. Closing date is 25 July 2025. You can submit an abstract using this form.

International CHCIO – new cohort starting September 2025

 

Are you a CIO/CXIO or aspirant who wants to distinguish yourself as a digital leader in health and care. Our next cohort of this prestigious programme is starting in September. The CHCIO programme is the first healthcare industry-specific credential developed by CIOs for CIOs. The programme was developed by a group of experienced CIO members of CHIME. Awards - Primary Health Care Specialist Group 44th Annual Conference, Education Day and AGM 2025

 

There are two prizes available again this year, one for excellence in primary care informatics and the other an early career award. Please see our website for further details. The deadline for applications is September 2025.

BMJ Health and Care Informatics Journal

 

We are very pleased to announce that the co-owned journal BMJ Health and Care Informatics Journal has been awarded a new impact factor – an amazing 4.4, which has increased from the previous factor of 4.1. We would like to congratulate the editorial board and chief editor Prof Jack Li. The journal is always looking for new publications in the field of digital health and we encourage anyone interested to become an author or a peer reviewer to get in contact: info.bmjhci@bmj.com.

Digital Health Summer School

Thursday 17 and Friday 18 July

This event provides an opportunity to take part in interactive workshops and gain insights from NHS leadership teams running high-impact digital programmes. BCS is supporting a workshop to explain the SPARKED approach and to explore with participants their views on taking forward a collaborative community for standards development. 

Webinar: Person-centred data sharing: a catalyst for service transformation

Tuesday 29 July, 5pm - 6pm

Chaloner Chute, Chief Technology Officer at the Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre, NHS Scotland will describe a potential shift in the way data sharing will work the health and care service context over the next decade.

Derek Hoy Memorial Lecture – Discombobulation at 40ppm

Dr Ian McNicoll, a former Scottish GP and an experienced digital leader, will deliver the lecture this year. It will include some lessons learned on the challenges of clinical information standardisation/ interoperability, public vs. private sector in digital health and the role of the clinical informatician, among other topics.

We have two packed days—the first with keynote speakers, interactive workshops, and a digital health innovations showcase, and the second with a focus on evidence-based practice and research findings.
